Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Luke Fickell Set to Speak at LFG Ohio

WESTERVILLE, OH – June 12, 2013 – Lauren’s First and Goal is happy to announce that Luke Fickell, Defensive Coordinator at The Ohio State University, will be the featured guest speaker at the fourth annual Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp on Saturday, June 22 at Otterbein University.

Fickell continues the Ohio State trend that has included head coach Urban Meyer, and president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association Archie Griffin, and former head coach Jim Tressel as previous guest speakers at the event. Each of the men are members of the foundation’s honorary board of directors.

"Since we started at Otterbein, Ohio State has been a huge supporter of Lauren’s First and Goal," said John Loose, founder of LFG and defensive coordinator of the Lafayette College football team. "Coach Meyer truly understands our mission, and he along with members of his staff, have done everything possible to promote our camp in Ohio.”

The Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp is open to student-athletes who will be entering grades 9 through 12 this fall. During the event, athletes are divided into small groups and receive instruction in a variety of offensive and defensive skills from volunteer college coaches from around the country. More than 100 coaches are expected to be in attendance.

Student-athletes can register for the camp on our website at www.LFGF.org.

The one-day football camp for high school players is the primary fundraiser for the Lauren’s First and Goal Foundation, which provides financial support for brain tumor research and cancer services, offers financial and emotional support to families living with pediatric cancer, and increases awareness of the disease. LFG has raised more than $1.5 million since it was created in 2004.

Born, raised and educated in Columbus, and a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, Fickell is now in his 12th consecutive season coaching at his alma mater, serving in the position of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Fickell has been at Ohio State coaching since the 2002 season, and he was the first assistant coach named to Urban Meyer’s Ohio State staff. Fickell was the team’s head coach in 2011.

Last year during Ohio State’s undefeated, 12-0 season, the defense capped a season-long path of improvement by ranking second-nationally in total defense during the month of November, allowing just 269.7 yards per game.

Along with the Ohio camp, Lauren’s First and Goal also hosts a one-day event at Lafayette College, which was held on Sunday, June 2 and set a foundation record with more than $104,000 raised.
